Green Schools

In April 2018 we received the fantastic news that we have been awarded our first Green Flag. We are officially a ‘Green School’! We have been eagerly awaiting the decision since our assessment day, which was carried out by Bernadine Carry, environmental officer with Meath County Council in early March. We have received our award for the work we have completed over the last three years on the first theme of the Green-Schools programme ‘Litter & Waste’. The theme was a great starting point for encouraging a sense of personal pride and responsibility in tackling these two visible issues in our school.

At a special school assembly we drew names out of a hat to select the four children who will attend the Green School Awards Ceremony on May 17th & collect the award on behalf of the school. Congratulations to Amy Bennett (4th), Jack Giles (3rd) Zoe O’Rourke (1st) & Paddy O Sullivan (Senior Infants) who were chosen! We had a Green Schools Celebration Day on the 22nd of June to celebrate this huge success with the whole school community! The bouncing castle obstacle course was the high point of the celebrations!!!

The Green Schools Project is a national programme run by An Taisce. It has been adopted by schools across the country. An Taisce sets goals and targets for schools to achieve within a two year timeframe for each of the programme’s five environmental themes. Following a school inspection, the successful school is awarded a Green Flag.

We have participated in the Green School Project for the past three years. Every year we work hard at improving our environmental awareness and implementing new green initiatives to help preserve both the school and local environment. We are currently working towards our award for Litter & Waste Management.
