Sport

In Carlanstown NS we promote individual and team games in competitive and non-competitive structures. The focus is on participation and enjoyment . We have strong links with our local sports clubs & coaches to promote the importance of physical activity for all our pupils.

The sporting calendar in Carlanstown NS is packed with activity from September through to June covering a wide range sports & Activities.  September and October are the start of a busy Cumann na mBunscol schedule for both the boys and the girls football teams. Children from as young as third class get to represent their school in this very prestigious competition where all the past and current Meath footballers made their first bow in competitive schools’ football.  We are very lucky to have a Meath Coaching and Games Development Officer visit the school for half a day every week, working with the teachers in developing the children’s football skills from Junior Infants – Sixth Class.

In November we participate in the interschools cross country championships in Fairyhouse. We are very fortunate to have the walking/running trail in Deerpark which we can use to prepare for this event.

As part of the Aquatics strand, every class completes an eight week programme in Kells Swimming  Pool across the year.   We have external coaches for tennis, hurling, cycling and yoga at various points in the year also.

March marks the arrival of the  FAI Schools Regional Competition. There is also the INTO Mini 7’s Gaelic football.

The Summer term sees us partake in a range of competitions including Rounders & Inter Schools Athletics.  However the highlight of our sporting year is our Active Schools Sports Week  & Races Day in June each year where the emphasis is on participation, team work and resilience rather than winning.
